Before we came to southern Spain we were a bit sceptical about the weather, thinking that we would have some cold rainy windy days, but we’ve had none of that. The weather has been good, between 16 and 23 degrees daytime, at night it can get very cold. We have settled in well here in Rincon we’ve met lots of different nationalities German, Dutch, Belgium, Danish, Swiss, and a few English we’ve had some interesting conversations at the 5 o’clock club in the little on-site outside bar. Our campsite only holds 38 motorhomes and is full up, most of the sites along the Costa del sol are full of northern Europeans escaping the cold northern winter. Getting ready for a three months adventure holiday is always the worst part of the preparation, making sure we’ve not forgotten anything filling the van with everything but the kitchen sink. We also need to prepare for covid restrictions to get into France and Spain. To get into France we need to have had two covid injections which we have on our NHS App, a declaration of intent downloaded off the French government website and a private LF Test within 24 hours of sailing. Dumfries, Gretna Green, Maryport, Oxen Park, Lake Windermere, Settle, Malham and Home. Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway are a wonderful part of Scotland which surprise us. We always think of Scotland as the Highlands north of Glasgow and Edinburgh. We now realise that The Mull of Kintyre, Ayrshire and the south coast between Stranraer and Dumfries along the Solway Firth are just as stunning. It’s the forgotten part of Scotland. We had a great time at Neptune’s Staircase, We spent the night there near Fort William with a commanding view of Ben Nevis, the largest mountain in the UK 1345 metres high, there is a tourist route up the mountain but we decided not to climb up because I forgot my grappling irons ☹. Kinlochbervie Glad we stayed at Kinlochbervie for two days it started to rain and didn’t stop for 24 hours. We’ve been lucky enough with the weather up to now, the temperature has been between 11 to 16° with a few days of rain this is the worst weather we’ve had so we mustn’t grumble. Kinlochbervie is the most northerly port on the west coast of Scotland. The majority of local industry is based on fishing, The town has a large fish handling depot, many ships from the west and east coast land their catches in Kinlochbervie. Something happens when your travelling you start to get excited, well we do. We set off at 10 am heading along the windy Scottish border roads towards Edinburgh. We picked up the Edinburgh ring road then the M8 to Glasgow, an urban motorway through Glasgow over the river Clyde on the Erskine Bridge. Then we dropped down into Dumbarton for fuel and groceries at Asda. We’ve got 25 miles to go to our overnight parking along Loch Lomond. What a great place to park for the night. It’s been a long time since we have been travelling in our van, corvid 19 has kept us isolated at home. But we’ve been busy overhauling our van over the last year, the tyres have been wearing out on one side especially the near side front of the van which was making the offside front and near side back run out of track also. Trying to find a company in Hull to fix it was impossible. Covid 19 has gone on longer then expected. We’ve not been on holiday this year we parked our motorhome up for the full year 2020. England has had two lock downs this year and we’re on our second one now, when will it end. Good news today a vaccine is possible by the end of the year hooray! Hope all goes well. We didn’t fancy going to Europe in a covid pandemic so we stayed at home. Year three of our travels have had to be cancelled. We were planning to get a ferry to Ireland from Holyhead to Dublin for three weeks, then over to France from Rosslare to Cherbourg down to the south of France and Spain for six months or more. But this pandemic has put the block on it. Things are not looking good in Ireland or Europe So we’re staying put.
