France Spain and Portugal blog fourteen.

Where still parked up in Valencia Camper park. Rained all day yesterday. The lower part of the campsite was flooded. luckily we where in the highest part of the site so we where ok just๐Ÿ˜ถ.

A river of rain running past our van ๐Ÿค”.

Next day the weather improved so we’re off to Valencia on the train.

Just 12km to Valencia on the train 4โ‚ฌ return each, public transport is very reasonable in Spain.

Valencia is Spain’s third largest city after Madrid and Barcelona.

Valencia has great lively feel to it with some great modern-day building. lots of tapas cafe’s serving rice dishes such as paella, a great bar scene and the streets are full of buskers. A very lively city. Spain has lots of Cathedrals, and Valencia has a massive one where the holy Grail treasury the cup that Christ drank out of at the last supper is kept.๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™„.

We had a great day in Valencia and the weather was a lot better.๐Ÿ˜Š

Next day we decided to move to Peniscola 120km away. And it rained all the way. when we got to Peniscola it was flooded, we where diverted 3 time before we made it to the campsite. It was lovely site so we stayed 3 nights. Camping La Volta is very popular with motorhomers staying all winter. It cost us 11โ‚ฌ a night, but if you stay over 10 nights you get discount of 2โ‚ฌ a night.Very reasonable if your staying all winter. This includes electricity and WiFi.

The campsite is between two Mediterranean seaside resorts Benicarlo and Peniscola. So we decided to get our bikes out and have a look around.

The weather’s been kind to us today but it’s a bit chilly and windy but the sun came out for a while ๐Ÿ˜Š. Two nice resorts but most of restaurant and bars where shut.

Peniscola Castle, and lighthouse

We’d like to go to Barcelona but we need to find a safe place to park. We found one in our aire book which seems ok. So off we went again. Driving in to Barcelona was a challenge very busy and the sat nav lost it’s way so did we. Big mistake coming into the centre of Barcelona. ๐Ÿ™„. We eventually got to the parking place. It was 30โ‚ฌ for 24hours that was ok if its secure . But we both didn’t feel safe or secure and we’v been told if it doesn’t feel right move on, so we did.

We where looking forward to visiting Barcelona, never mind maybe some other time.

We’re now going to a Spa town called Valdes de Malavella. Parking free with all facilities including electricity. What a lovely town, we went to the tourist information centre.

Got a map of the town and went on a tour of the Spa and the historic Roman baths.

We met up with a lovely English couple Ed and Dot, from the Lake district.

We went to the pub with them a couple of nights. Ed and Dot where very good company, and we had a great time with them. Hope to see them again ๐Ÿค—.

We’v decided to go over the border to Argeles sur mer in France. We’v been in Spain for eleven weeks and what a fantastic country it is, its past all our expectations.๐Ÿ™‚ We arrived in Argeles and parked by the marina, which was fine and safe. Next day we had a look around the marina and the town. It’s very nice but it’s the off season not meny people about, but we found a restaurant and had a meal.

Great views of the Pyrenees mountains.

We’re coming to the end of our adventure, we’v done 5000 miles up to now, still got about 1500 miles to do.

Only one week left. We’v booked the ferry Calais to Dover December 2nd. All for now.

Next we’re going to Carcassonne, then to Sarlat in the Dordogne. Then Home. ๐Ÿ™‚
